Adrienne Landau 1920s style evening coat, 1990s
"I'd rather be looked at than overlooked" Adrienne Landau
This top selling coat from Landau belonged to a New York socialite active in the arts. After building a collection of early 20th century fashion, she must have been thrilled to find such a spectacular recreation of the quintessential flapper evening coat.
I have also listed the coat in the 1920s-1930s section for the customer who wants the flapper look without the fear of wearing an antique museum treasure. We can see why the flapper evening coat—even in its modern incarnation—remains a perennial favorite: no other look combines such opulence with such youthful sass.
Adrienne Landau's design philosophy of creating fashion "for someone who is confident about attracting the right kind of attention" has made her a celebrity favorite. Below you can see her celebrity fans Wynona Judd, Patti LaBelle, and Sharon Stone wearing variations of this signature coat.
The coat is fashioned from black rayon velvet and is lined with black silk. The exterior is lavishly embroidered with gold thread, Persian style flowers. The collar and cuffs are luxurious black dyed Finnish fox. The coat is bordered all round with hand-knotted, black cord fringe. On the sides are set-in pockets.
The condition is excellent. It looks like it was never worn.
The loose, clutch-style coat fits a variety of figures.
It measures: 56" circumference and 42" from shoulder to hem, excluding the fringe.
