Filene's French Shop silk dress, 1950s
The French Shops at Filenes in Boston were famous for finely made high end fashion for the woman of discriminating taste. This exquisite little black dress has the fine finishing (self- bound buttonholes) expected in an expensive 1950s dress.
Fashioned from substantial weight black silk faille, the bodice closes in front with self-corded buttons; the skirt closes in front with a metal zipper hidden under the pleats.
The dress, longer when new, still has all the original skirt fabric and can be let down again if desired. The kimono-style sleeves have underarm gussets.
The condition is excellent and wearable.
It measures: 38" bust, 28" waist, full in hip, 16" from shoulder to waist, and 42" from shoulder to hem.
