#7364 $850Beaded velvet vintage-style dress, 1980s
This is one of the finest vintage inspired dresses I have come across: a perfect choice if you are looking for antique beauty and modern comfort with drop dead gorgeous styling. The lustrous copper color conveys an appealing antique charm.
Made from soft rayon and silk panne velvet, the chic dress is lightweight and comfortable to wear. It is totally lined with matching georgette and closes in back with an invisible zipper. The inspired styling assimilates the beaded flapper dress look to the sensual long lines of the 1930s, creating a marvelous fashion hybrid: 1+ 1 = 3!
The beading pattern uses high quality glass beads with smooth edges, unlike the jagged beads found in less expensive copies. The use of novelty metallic paillettes is a gracious nod to fashion history. The square and rectangular paillettes have a golden tint, but my lights make the color vary from ivory to gold.
The composition of the brilliant beading displays a creative flair rarely found in a modern dress. Clusters of ruby hued glass beads alternate with fireworks of brilliant paillettes in the clever contrapuntal design.
This stunning dress brings to mind the styles worn by the young American expatriates (Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow) in The Talented Mr. Ripley. They had the sort of elegance and ease that comes from money and leisure. They were not afraid to be stylish or artistic—or decadent for that matter.
The condition is excellent. The dress looks like it was never worn.
It measures: 36"-38" bust, 32" waist, 40" hip, and 49" center-front length.
