Printed ribbon-weave cotton dress with hoop, c.1900
Some pieces are too pretty to discard, even when the condition is less than great. This piece is priced accordingly and would make a lovely display. Or use it for a study piece to make a pattern.
The sheer ribbon weave fabric is over printed with delicate pink roses. Pink and green satin ribbon trim picks up the colors of the print. The ruched and puffed sleeves are magnificent.
The bodice of the two-piece dress was enlarged by adding extra fabric. If you fold under this addition, the original shape of the bodice is still intact. The skirt is lined with brown polished cotton.
The dress comes with 3 3/4 yards of addtional matching ribbon weave fabric in excellent condition. It could be used for repairs or to make a matching child's dress. The dress also comes with the hoop originally worn underneath. Unfortunately the lower part of the hoop has been removed, probably due to deterioration. It is still useful to hold the skirt out for display.
The condition is very good. With a few splits in the fabric, the dress still displays beautifully. The waistband ribbon is splitting and one sleeve ribbon is a replacement.
It measures: 35" bust (approximate due to the alteration), 25" waist, 16" bodice length from shoulder to front hem, and 39" skirt length.
