Dolman style wrap, 1870s
Made from camel colored wool twill and lined with matching silk taffeta, this historically accurate, unaltered wrap is a special find for the collector who wants a study piece without the high price of perfect condition. It also displays beautifully as is.
The stand-up collar is of black faux fur. The wrap is lavishly embellished with novelty fringe and beaded, braided trim rondels. The beading is subtle—just enough to add sparkle. Some of the rondels have chenille ball-drops. They probably all had this addition when the wrap was new.
The wrap closes in front with concealed hooks.
The condition is very good. Issues: a few moth nibbles; some of the chenille drops are missing from the braided trim rondels. The lining has two long splits in the waist area. It is not shattering and does not need to be replaced.
It measures approximately 38" bust, 46" hip, and 40" from shoulder to hem.
