Teal Traina silk organza party dress, late 1950s
The New York fashion house Teal Traina produced elegant women's clothing in the 1950s and early 1960s. It employed many young designers who went on to become well known in their own right, like as Geoffrey Beene, Louis Dell'Olio, and Dominic Rompollo.
In our ladylike dress, the hand of an accomplished designer is unmistakable, as is the high quality. The severity of the simple black style is relieved by the plunging neckline in front and back.
The slightly high waisted dress is fashioned from substantial weight, crisp black silk organza. The body is lined with black taffeta. Bands of black satin, black velvet, and maroon satin ribbon outline the neckline, cuffs, hem, and belt. The dress closes in back with a nylon coil zipper.
The condition is almost excellent. On the shoulders is gentle wear, which is not obvious and does not spoil the appearance. In excellent condition the price would be at least $450.
It measures: 38" bust, 29" waist, full skirt, 23 1/2" sleeve length, 15" from shoulder to waist and 37" skirt length.
