Cotton print wrapper, late 19th century
Everyday clothing that has survived in good condition is often the most difficult to find. Such clothing was usually worn until it died. This lovely cotton print wrapper is an exemplar of late 19th clothing.
The wrapper is fashioned from ivory cotton printed with olive green pinstripes and black feathers. The loose-fitting wrapper style features an ivory cotton underbodice that closes in front with mother-of-pearl buttons. One side seam has a set-in pocket.
The condition is very good. The fabric has several splits that will need mending. They disappear in the busy print and do not spoil the appearance of the wrapper.
It measures: 36" bust, 13 " from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 22" sleeve length, 14 1/2" collar circumference at the neckline, and 52" from the shoulder to the hem.
