Stern Brothers wool coat, c.1905
What dramatic style! I fell in love with the romantic multi-layered cape collar. The loose style with full sleeves and swing back is comfortable and easy to wear.
The coat itself is in sturdy wearable condition without moth nibbles. However, the silk faille fabric on the facings and on the binding is deteriorating. The coat is lined with black satin.
The fabric can easily be replaced if you can do the repair. You will have a vintage coat worth $450-500. In the Treasure Hunt Section, I sometimes list the easy and average projects for which I haven't the time. My loss is your gain.
The label reads "Stern Brothers/West 23rd Street/New York."
The condition is very good. The coat displays beautifully as is. To wear it, you will need to replace the front facings and patch the sleeve lining around the cuffs. The braided trim on the facings is in excellent condition. The imperfections are reflected in the price.
It measures: 42" bust, flaring out to 66" hips; 25" sleeve length; and 46" from shoulder to hem.
