Satin & net dinner dress, early 1920s
This charming dress from the early 1920s is a great buy if you enjoy an easy creative project. The dress, priced below the market due to a minor flaw, can be easily restored. You would end up with an authentic 1920s piece with retail value of $580-$600.
The dress is perfect other than a few splits in the sleeve fabric. The sleeves could be removed altogether or you could replace them with new net fabric. This relatively easy repair would give you a fine wearable dress.
The long torso is fashioned from black satin. The satin underskirt is covered with black net panels that are edged with pleated ruffles. I love the three-dimensional rose trim that decorates the lower edge of the torso and the shoulders. The bodice is lined with ivory China silk.
The dress closes in back with snaps.
The condition is almost excellent.
It measures 36" bust; 28" waist; full skirt; 25" from the shoulder to the bottom of the torso; and 50" from shoulder to hem.
