Chanel Boutique rayon crepe dress, 1980s
Karl Lagerfeld: "Make a better future by developing elements from the past."
The labeled dress, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, does just that. From the lofty pinnacle of fashion, he has had enormous success by reinventing Chanel's signature themes to pique the fantasies of today's young women.
Made from almost black, navy rayon crepe with detachable ivory silk satin collar and cuffs, the smart dress looks like the quintessential Chanel classic. On close examination, we see that the seams gently shape the dress to the female figure in an ingeniously modern reinterpretation. Gone is the boxy look of 1920s Chanel.
The dress is totally lined with matching georgette. It closes in front with a long zipper. The buttons and the zipper all have the CC logo.
What a charming zip-up "playsuit" for a big girl whom the big boys will want as their playmates! The almost clerical collar is just right for a garment that seems almost to attach the wearer to some Order—not of religious novitiates, but rather of style sophisticates.
Karl Lagerfeld has been able to successfully reinvent the classic Chanel look. Our little black dress captures the essence of the style: elegant, comfortable, and practical. As Coco Chanel used to say, "Fashion fades, only style remains."
The condition is excellent and wearable. The dress has been gently worn.
The size is marked 38.
It measures: 36" bust, 30" waist, 36" hip, and 35" from shoulder to hem.
