Beaded silk chiffon evening dress, 1930s
If you enjoy sewing on beads, you can have a first rate period dress for a fraction of the usual price. Try to think of the repetitive sewing motion as a peaceful Zen experience. That is how I do it :)
Made from navy blue silk chiffon lined with royal blue silk crepe, the dress closes on the side with small snaps. The hem border is of navy velveteen. The decorative zigzag pattern is made up of loops of iridescent navy glass beads.
You can see in the pictures that some of these loops, which are detached, need to be secured. Having completed this simple repair job, you will have a charming 1932s dress with retail value of $550 to $600.
Due to the fragile state of the beads, I did not steam the dress. After you have anchored the beads, it will be easy to steam the wrinkles out of the hem border.
The condition is very good. The dress is clean and has no other issues.
It measures: 36" bust, 34" drop waist, 48" hip, and 47" center-front length.
