Brocade peep toe shoes, c.1938-40
When open toe shoe styles first appeared in 1938, the only stockings available had unsightly reinforced toes. The stocking manufacturers responded with "sandal" stockings in the 1940s.
These eye-catching high vamp shoes are fashioned from floral silk brocaded trimmed with bands of silver kid leather. The heels and ankle straps are also silver leather. The straps close on the side with silver tone buckles.
The condition is almost excellent. The silver leather on the heels, bands, and straps is scuffed. The style is fabulous enough to overlook the less-than-perfect condition.
The size is marked 5 M. The heels are 3 1/2" high.
