Romantic period printed voile dress flounce, c.1830
With its delicate floral pattern, this lovely printed dress flounce is a fine example of the Romantic period aesthetic. The intricate small-scale floral prints, made possible by recent innovations in the printing industry, were perfectly suited for the graceful full-skirted dresses with large gigot sleeves.
The flounce has one hand-sewn seam and is hemmed by hand. The colors are soft and romantic—blue, lavender, dusty rose, and muted teal on an ivory ground. The interplay among the subtle gradations of color is masterful!
The condition is very good to excellent. There are a few small holes near the hem on one end and a yellow stain that shows in the picture.
It measures 85" by 13 1/3". Over 2 yards!
