Gold garter bracelet, c.1860-80

This bracelet style was inspired by the Royal Order of the Garter! Queen Victoria was too modest to wear the required blue garter on her knee. She wore hers on her arm, thereby launching the style of the garter bracelet.

The bracelet is fashioned from heavy-weight, flexible gold mesh, ending in a foxtail chain tassel. The decorative slide has fine black enamel work, intricate design, and a center pearl. This one of the best decorative slides I have ever seen.

The condition is excellent. The mesh band is 3/4" wide. The size is adjustable because of the slide. The bracelet has tested for 14K gold.
