#1012 $2,200
Gold/garnet garter bracelet, c.1870-80
This bracelet style was inspired by the Royal Order of the Garter! Queen Victoria was too modest to wear the required blue garter on her knee. She wore hers on her arm, thereby launching the style of the garter bracelet.
This bracelet is transitional in design, having the basic design of a garter bracelet. However, instead of the usual slide clasp, the bracelet has a buckle clasp.
The bracelet is fashioned from heavy-weight, flexible gold mesh, ending in a foxtail chain tassel. The buckle clasp is set with five Bohemian garnets, totaling approximately .75 carats. The bracelet has tested for 14K gold.
The ever popular garter bracelet is a must for a collection of Victorian jewelry.
The condition is excellent. The size is adjustable because of the sliding clasp. The mesh band is 3/4" wide.
