1920s flapper dress

#6927         $950

Silk chiffon flapper dress, mid 1920s

Our flirty chemise dress is the personification of the free spirited, fun loving mood of the flapper era. With its car wash panels, the skirt is perfect for dancing; the rhinestone decoration sparkles with joie de vivre.

What a playful and pretty dress that reflects the unbounded optimism of the times! As the 1926 hit song put it: "Blue skies smiling at me; nothing but blue skies do I see...Never saw the sun shining so bright; never saw things going so right."

Fashioned from black silk chiffon, the dress is sheer and will need a black slip. The straight chemise style is accented at the hipline with glittering rhinestones and a large velvet flower. The dress slips over the head with no closures.

The brief Flapper Era (1924-1929) defined the whole decade. The short and showy Flapper styles came to an abrupt end with the stock market crash of 1929. When I viewed the Chanel exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I was impressed by just how modern the flapper styles appear today.

The condition is excellent. It is clean and can be worn but gently of course.

It measures: 38" bust and waist, 36" rhinestone band, 40" hip, and 41" from shoulder to hem.
