1930s evening dress

#2291          Sold

Metallic brocaded satin/velvet evening dress, 1930s

The eye-turning beauty was found in Paris. That fact, together with the unique textile used, suggests the dress was made in France. Here is a one-of-a-kind creation without the high cost of couture. This is the vintage advantage.

One of the attractions of dealing in vintage clothing is the opportunity to handle the most beautiful textiles of the past. The form-fitting torso is fashioned from scintillating, metallic brocaded satin with plaid panels on the sides. The brocaded pattern covers both the solid center area and the plaid.

The wide ruffle at the top of the skirt is tacked up on the torso with backing for support. The neckline is weighted on the inside to ensure it will hang properly. The dress closes on the side with snaps. The neckline and armholes are bound with black silk crepe.

The splendid dress was meant for a woman of style and substance. Her fine form and fashionable dress combine with a distinguished and commanding presence to produce a gratifying effect to which few can be insensible.

The condition is almost excellent. There is slight tarnishing under the arms—not noticeable because it appears to be part of the plaid.

It measures: 38" bust, 32" waist, 40" hip, 30" from the shoulder to the top of the ruffle, and 57" from the shoulder to the hem.
