Valentino Mongolian lamb coat, 1980s
Valentino started out as the protege of couturier Jean Dessès. In 1960 Valentino set up his own couture house in Rome. He was always dreaming of the movie goddesses he had adored as a young boy. "I always have a goddess in mind when I design," Valentino once said. "I like big entrances, arrogant attitudes, and women with men at their feet!"
Valentino has dressed many of the world’s most famous and stylish women: Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Marella Agnelli, Audrey Hepburn, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johanssen and Keira Knightley; and that is only the first quarter of the list.
The designer's glamour aesthetic can also be seen in his day wear collections. You will definitely make a big entrance in this eye catching, curly lamb coat, dyed a heavenly plum hue. Valentino's signature plush luxuriance made this beauty irresistible to the original owner, a New York fashionista who loved cutting-edge design.
The coat is fashioned from Mongolian curly lamb in a straight cut. It closes in front with one button. There are set-in front pockets, a shawl collar, and wide roomy sleeves. The comfortable easy-to-wear style fits easily over sweaters and jackets. Now that the Sheik of Chic has retired, his vintage creations are more sought after than ever.
The condition is excellent. It is clean and ready to wear.
It measures 54" around and 43" from the shoulder to the hem.
