Alligator bag, 1940s
This fabulous one-of-a-kind bag is fashioned from reddish brown alligator. The brown leather interior has two side pockets, one of which is zippered. The clasp is brass. The bag is marked "Belmont Bags/N.Y." on one of the pockets.
The slightly concave sides subliminally emphasize the yin (female) principle (Earth, moonlight, darkness, quiet, receptivity, softness) as opposed to the yang (male) principle in the universe.
The condition is excellent.
It measures 7 1/2" high by 8" wide.
