Winter weight combing jacket, late 19th century
I love the novelty weave in this crisp white Victorian combing jacket. The inside of the fabric has flannel pile for warmth. The jacket would be a wonderful addition to a Victorian collection, or it could be worn.
The jacket is trimmed with rows of trapunto cording and hand-embroidered eyelet ruffles. It closes in front with mother-of-pearl buttons.
The condition is almost excellent. There are two pin-prick size mends on the back, which are difficult to detect and do not spoil the appearance.
It measures: 36" bust, 46" waist and hip, 16" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 23" sleeve length (including the ruffle), 9" cuff circumference, and 22" from the shoulder to the hem.
