Hand-embroidered open-work doily, c.1900
The fine open work lace in this doily is exceptional. The pattern shapes are all outlined with a gimp thread, and the open areas have several types of fancy fill. The piece can be beautiful framed and hung where you and your friends can enjoy this superb example of needle art.
The condition is almost excellent. One corner is slightly damaged—see the bottom picture. It would be easy to reweave the corner with a needle and matching thread.
It measures 7" square.
