#6422 $400
Coro flower brooch, 1940s
Early costume jewelry was made with the same attention to detail used in fine jewelry. However, the former, lacking real gemstones, had to "try harder." That was done with great design innovation in costume jewelry.
In this brooch, I love the inspired combination of a three-dimensional, gold plated flower and pavé rhinestone leaves. The flower center is set with a red glass faux ruby, af if to symbolize art paying homage to nature.
Coro is one of the most respected names in costume jewelry. From the early 1900s, when the company was founded, until it closed in the late 1970s, the talented artists who worked for Coro produced an endless variety of creative designs like this brooch.
The condition is excellent.
It measures 2 3/4" by 1 5/8".
