Rayon crepe dress, 1940s

During the years of WWII rationing, fashion had to take a back seat to the larger war effort. Still the fashionista of her day managed to turn heads with shapely style. Opulence was out and rationing was in. The new adjective for describing the fashionable woman was "smart." She wasn't richly attired, but she was smartly turned out.

This wartime dress is fashioned from black rayon crepe. The neckline cutout is backed with black mesh and outlined with rows of silver colored metallic studs. The dress closes on the side with a metal zipper and at the back neckline with self-covered buttons. The shapely peplum and square shoulders give the wearer a smart, confident look.

The condition is almost excellent. The dress just shows gentle wear.

It measures: 42" bust, 32" waist, 44" hip, 16" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 22" sleeve length, and 46" from the shoulder to the hem.
