Silk ribbon reticule, c.1860
This reticule from the Civil War period is fashioned from a folded piece of watered silk ribbon. The folded design forms three inner compartments. The drawstring casing is hand-embroidered with feather stitch. What an endearing memento!
The condition is very good and all original. There several splits near the drawstring—see the middle picture. They are stable; the silk is definitely not shattering.
It measures: 10 1/2" long by 5 3/4" wide.
