French hand-embroidered silk nightgown, 1930s
Handmade silk lingerie, imported from France in the early 20th century, has enduring appeal for collectors who love its unapologetic femininity. The soft curves and luxurious silk set the mood; the exquisite hand embroidery and dainty hand finishing details have an irresistible feminine appeal.
The bodice of this lovely nightgown is fashioned from a combination of pastel pink and blue satin. The skirt is matching blue silk crepe de chine. The label, which reads "Suzanne Foly/Rue St Honoré 372/Paris," is located on one of the side seams of the bodice—see the bottom picture.
There is a good reason why generations of fashion-savvy women have coveted handmade French lingerie from early 20th century. It is not only exquisitely beautiful in itself but also has a well deserved reputation for working "bedroom magic" on the wearer's partner.
The condition is excellent. It is clean and ready to wear.
It measures: 36" bust, 29" waist, full in hip, and 56 1/2" from the shoulder to the hem.
