Knitted silk mitts, 19th century
The mitten style, which does not have divided fingers, was popular from the 1830s to 1900. This pair is is finely knit with plain stockinette stitch over the hands and a pretty open work mesh pattern on the arms.
The condition is very good. The mitts have a few pale brown spots, which may wash out. One mitt has a small mend. These minor flaws are reflected in the price.
The size is marked "6 1/2 medium".
