Antique Aubusson panel, c.1890
This is the real thing! Since decorating magazines have been featuring pillows made from Aubusson fragments, many contemporary copies have appeared on the market. These antique panels were removed from the arms of a Victorian chair. The panels would sell for at least $700 each if they were made into pillows. If you are handy with a needle, you can make your own pillows for a fraction of the cost.
Aubusson is a style of tapestry weave that resembles needlepoint. Aubusson originated over 300 years ago in the small town of Aubusson, France and was used to create carpets and decorative objects for the nobility.
The condition is very good to excellent. You can see in the pictures that there is wear on one side of the panel where the arm rested. Many people consider this a part of the antique charm.
Each panel measures 22" long by 12" wide.
