flapper evening cap

#4043         $375

Sequined evening cap, 1920s-1930s

Fancy evening caps were an essential part of the wardrobe of the most stylish flappers. This lovely sequined cap is a special find for the serious collector.

The cap is fashioned from black cotton net totally covered with glittering silver blue sequins. I love the mixture of textured sequins on the crown. The look of streamlined modernism in the cap seems fresh and relevant today.

This type of cap is known as a Juliet cap, since it was worn by Juliet in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, set in Verona, Italy in the 1530s. Styles constantly recycle. In the late 1960s, the Juliet cap was again very much in vogue, particularly for weddings.

The condition is excellent and wearable.

One size fits all.
