Halston novelty beaded evening jacket, 1970s
Halston revolutionized the fashion world in the disco seventies with his vision of minimalist, elegant design. His timeless, figure-enhancing creations are highly sought collector's items today.
He turned to beading in the late 1970s. While this visually arresting jacket is totally beaded, it is still a classic style that is easy to wear. The dramatically simple batwing shape is quintessential Halston; the novelty beading is a delightful flight of fancy.
The jacket is fashioned from black nylon mesh. The surface was hand decorated in India with colorful metallic pailettes and glass beads. I love the mix of color and shapes (blossom, square, propeller, strip, eyeglass). Halston achieves the brilliant kaleidoscopic effect by using a seemingly infinite variety of color/shape combinations.
This versatile jacket is the perfect fashion accessory. Wear it over a simple Halston-like evening gown or wear it with pants. This one has the wow factor to last for years!
The label reads "Halston," meaning that he designed the garment. Later Halston III and IV labels indicate those designs were not actually created by Halston but were produced by the company that bought the Halston name. This is an important distinction for collectors.
Halston has always meant great, classic design. Now, however, we can expect a big comeback for this glamorous 1970s name. It was bought in April, 2007 by a Hollywood mogul who intends to push the brand to the forefront.
The condition is excellent.
The simple unconstructed shape fits a variety of sizes. It measures 42" around and 22" long from the shoulder to the hem.
