Needle-run net lace scarf, 1870s
Needle-run or darned net laces were made by hand by embroidering the design onto a net ground. This lovely gossamer scarf was hand embroidered by Emma LeBetts Taylor in 1876—see a picture of the identifying note below.
The cream colored scarf is very fine silk net with silk floss embroidery.
The condition is excellent. At first I thought the corners of the scalloped border showed loss of the outer edge. Since all four corners are exactly the same, I believe the scarf was constructed in this manner.
It measures 29" square.
