Giorgio Armani lightweight wool coat, 1990s
This impeccably tailored, lightweight coat from Armani's couture level line is a fine example of his uncomplicated but high-impact appeal. His style is sophisticated, conveying a relaxed confidence, a sobriety and refinement, yet with an easygoing sensuality.
I often shop in the Armani store in Manchester, VT. Because it is located in a rural resort area, I go there dressed very casually. When I slip on an Armani jacket over my blue jeans, I am amazed at the transformation. With its sleek, refined aesthetic, the Armani look, so simple on the hangers, makes me feel cool and elegant. The secret is in the tailoring.
It is not surprising that Armani began his fashion career in menswear, working for Nino Cerruti and Ungaro. The first designs produced under his own label in 1974 were menswear. In his collection for women a year later, he used his knowledge of precise cut and tailoring from menswear to produce sophisticated, understated designs. He was also in the right place at the right time. Liberated career women loved the tailored look.
The coat is fashioned from dark navy/black wool with understated gray pinstripes and is totally lined with white satin. The coat closes to the hipline with concealed inner buttons. There are no pockets, buttons, or decorations to break the slim, clean line. There is a deep vent on the lower back for ease of movement. This beautifully tailored coat would be perfect for spring and/or fall. I know the original owner and can guarantee it is authentic.
The condition is excellent. It looks like it was never worn.
The size is marked European 44.
It measures: 40" bust, 35" waist, 42" hip, 16" from shoulder seam to shoulder
seam, 25" sleeve length, and 51" from the shoulder to the hem.
