Ceil Chapman beaded satin dress, c.1950
The talented American designer Ceil Chapman found her true calling after WWII, when Dior's New Look returned prettiness to center stage in the fashion world. While Chapman is best known for draped, body-conscious styles that celebrate the female figure, she also produced finely beaded designs like this beauty. Her designs were a favorite of Marilyn Monroe.
The stylish party dress has everything you could want in a Ceil Chapman. It is beautifully made, sexy, and tastefully embellished with glittering beads. Made from exquisite sea foam green satin, the dress is almost totally covered with opaque white glass beads and iridescent sequins. The beading, drawing attention to the bust, is signature Chapman.
The bodice is lined and boned for support. You will not need to worry about what used to be called "foundation garments." The construction details whisper "quality." The dress closes on the side with a metal zipper. This is a dress that bespeaks wealth and stylishness in a confident, understated manner.
The condition is excellent and wearable.
It measures: 38" bust, 26" waist, 38" hip, and 43 1/2" center-front length.
